Summary
KALYMAT is looking for a translator with a strong background in creative writing and fully fluent (native-bilingual) in Arabic and English, as well as a solid understanding of different dialects and linguistic styles. The person we are looking for will have graduated from a master’s degree course and will have studied their degrees in both Arabic and English to allow for in-depth use of the languages.
They must also have experience with cultural exchange so that they can understand the nuances in the use of language and the need for absolute accuracy in translating the letter as well as the essence of creative works, as well as scientific and other technical language. They will have produced their own creative works and reports, whether on a small or large scale.
They must understand the ethical need to do technical works justice, honour, and respect the creator’s full and complete intention and meaning behind their work. Their role will include:
– Receive original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained.
– Receive content and interpret into the target language.
– Make cultural or linguistic adjustments as necessary to retain the meaning and intention behind the work.
– Research technical, historical, cultural, legal, and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation.
– Use translation memory software and CAT tools to ensure optimal consistency of translation and efficiency.
– Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology.
– Use appropriate software for presentation and delivery.
– Proofread and edit final translated versions.
– Consult with experts in specialist areas where necessary.
– Retain and develop knowledge on specialist areas.
– Build relationships with organisations and individuals for relevant projects.
– Comply with quality standards to ensure ethical obligations are upheld.
Experience
– Native-Bilingual fluency in Arabic and English.
– Up to a Master’s degree with studies conducted in both English and Arabic.
– Relationships with cultural exchange organisations and platforms, and demonstrable experience working with such organisations in wider cultural exchange contexts.
– Ability to forge and develop relationships with relevant individuals and businesses.
– Demonstrable solid understanding of different dialects and linguistic styles, as well as grammar, vocabulary, and nuances in language.
– Show a strong understanding of the importance and ways of relaying maximum accuracy of cultural backgrounds and norms through language.
– Show a strong understanding and ability to research technical language in various forms and contexts including scientific and technical.
– Strong research, critical, and analytical skills.
– Show a passion and experience in writing, editing, producing reports, and the creative industries.
